Pros & Cons

Builds

Anemo DPS Build

Xiao is famous for his plunge attack spam which is activated during his burst. The high energy cost can mislead you into stacking ER but it's simply more efficient to have an Anemo battery to feed Xiao energy. Sucrose is an excellent choice with TTDS while Jean provides less energy but can heal Xiao with her Burst. With proper team construction, Xiao usually needs 120 to 140 ER.

In optimized rotations, you only want Xiao dealing damage during his burst, and have his downtime be when you prepare for his next Burst. It's better to think of Xiao with a dynamic playstyle reading enemy attack patterns and using his plunges to dodge and counterattack rather than a combo machine.

Talent Priority

Normal Attack > Burst = Skill
Xiao's damage comes from his Normal Attack talent. His Burst is a buff to his damage. Raise Normal Attack to 9 or 10 before raising Burst and Skill past 6. It's fine to raise his Burst to 7 in order to better manage his HP drain.

Stat Priority

Main stats: ATK/Anemo DMG or ATK/Crit
Substats: Crit/ATK/ER
Xiao's Burst gives you a lot of DMG buffs so you may run an ATK goblet provided it has better substats. While yes, Anemo DMG goblets should be better, don't let that limit your options if you have a much better ATK goblet.

Primordial Jade Winged-Spear is Xiao's signature weapon, providng massive ATK and Crit Rate.

Eagle Spear of Justice
On hit, increases ATK by 3.2~6.0% for 6s. Max 7 stacks. This effect can only occur once every 0.3s. While in possession of the maximum possible stacks, DMG dealt is increased by 12~24%.

Staff of Homa is a comparable alternative and could help in balancing Xiao's Crit ratio, since his ascension stat is Crit Rate.

HP increased by 20~40%. Additionally, provides an ATK Bonus based on 0.8~1.6% of the wielder's Max HP. When the wielder's HP is less than 50%, this ATK bonus is increased by an additional 1~1.8% of Max HP.
Decent Damage

The 24 Starglitter is a steep cost but Xiao doesn't really have other F2P options. Not that it's a bad weapon, it can compete with 5★ weapons.

As tempting as the ER substat can be, it covers weaknesses more than it plays to Xiao's strengths. It's still a 5★ polearm so its usually better than your 4★ options.

Increases CRIT Rate by 8~16% and increases Normal ATK SPD by 12%. Additionally, Normal and Charged Attacks hits on opponents have a 50% chance to trigger a vacuum blade that deals 40~100% of ATK as DMG in a small AoE. This effect can occur no more than once every 2s.

This is a good 5★ weapon for Xiao, but pulling this weapon just for Xiao is not recommended.

Extinguishing Precept
Gain 12~24% All Elemental DMG Bonus. Obtain Consummation for 20s after using an Elemental Skill, causing ATK to increase by 3.2~6.4% per second. This ATK increase has a maximum of 6 stacks. When the character equipped with this weapon is not on the field, Consummation's ATK increase is doubled.

Battlepass option. It's very comparable to Blackcliff Pole.

4 After using an Elemental Burst. this character will gain the Nascent Light effect, increasing their ATK by 8% for 16s. When the character's HP decreases, their ATK will further increase by 10%. This increase can occur this way maximum of 4 times. This effect can be triggered once every 0.8s. Nascent Light will be dispelled when the character leaves the field. If an Elemental Burst is used again during the duration of Nascent Light, the original Nascent Light will be dispelled.
