Pros & Cons
- Highest Single-Target Potential
- Famous for reaction damage potential
- Her Charged Attacks can always Vaporize, and her combos can also have a lot of Vaporize potential.
- Has Access to Flexible compositions
- Unique design allows her to be relatively tanky
- Her value is limited by player's skill expression
- Animation-cancelling and stamina management are core concepts for her gameplay.
- Viridescent Venerer setups are infamously difficult
- HP management leads to an impression that Hu Tao needs shield support to be playable
- Really needs high investment to be impactful
- C1 is an easy temptation.
- Likely the best C1 in the game (this leads the impression that you need C1 to allow better damage through easier playstyle.)
- C0 is infamous as "stamina constrained" where C1's stamina related effect allows for better stamina usage.
- Optimized comps need Xingqiu
- Xingqiu enables most of Hu Tao's damage while providing good defensive utility and as a co-star in damage.
- Xingqiu also enables most of Hu Tao's party flexibility

Hu Tao consumes a set portion of her HP to knock the surrounding enemies back and enter the Paramita Papilio state.
Paramita Papilio
- Increases Hu Tao's ATK based on her Max HP at the time of entering this state. ATK Bonus gained this way cannot exceed 400% of Hu Tao's Base ATK.
- Converts attack DMG to Pyro DMG, which cannot be overridden by any other elemental infusion.
- Charged Attacks apply the Blood Blossom effect to the enemies hit.
- Increases Hu Tao's resistance to interruption.
Blood Blossom
Enemies affected by Blood Blossom will take Pyro DMG every 4s. This DMG is considered Elemental Skill DMG.
Each enemy can be affected by only one Blood Blossom effect at a time, and its duration may only be refreshed by Hu Tao herself.
Paramita Papilio ends when its duration is over, or Hu Tao has left the battlefield or fallen.

Commands a blazing spirit to attack, dealing Pyro DMG in a large AoE.
Upon striking the enemy, regenerates a percentage of Hu Tao's Max HP. This effect can be triggered up to 5 times, based on the number of enemies hit.
If Hu Tao's HP is below or equal to 50% when the enemy is hit, both the DMG and HP Regeneration are increased.
Passives

When Hu Tao cooks a dish perfectly, she has a 18% chance to receive an additional "Suspicious" dish of the same type.

When a Paramita Papilio state activated by Guide to Afterlife ends, all allies in the party (excluding Hu Tao herself) will have their CRIT Rate increased by 12% for 8s.

When Hu Tao's HP is equal to or less than 50%, her Pyro DMG Bonus is increased by 33%.
Constellations

While in a Paramita Papilio state activated by Guide to Afterlife, Hu Tao's Charge Attacks do not consume Stamina.

Increases the Blood Blossom DMG by an amount equal to 10% of Hu Tao's Max HP at the time the effect is applied.
Additionally, Spirit Soother will also apply the Blood Blossom effect.

Increases the Level of Guide to Afterlife by 3.

Builds
DPS Build
Hu Tao's damage mostly comes from Charged Attacks. Failing her Charged Attack combos severely punish Hu Tao's damage.
Normal Attack = Skill = Burst
The easy answer is to just keep Hu Tao's talents roughly the same level with each other at all times. If you need the order, Normal Attack should go first as it is the source of your consistent DPS followed by your skill for the HP-ATK conversion to boost your Normal Attack. Her Burst is excellent for nuke damage and should not be neglected.
Main stats: HP or EM/Pyro/Crit
Substats: Crit, HP EM
Generally you value HP sands over EM as HP also acts as a defensive stat allowing for greater room for error. Dragon's Bane provides a lot of EM as well so it generally pushes you towards HP Sands pieces. Remember that Hu Tao values raw stats so its more of finding the right balance of stats.

Hu Tao's personal weapon and her true 5* weapon.
Although ATK as a stat isn't Hu Tao's main focus, this weapon is really valuable for its high Crit Rate and encourages you to run a EM sands.
(At R5) in Optimized comps, this is Hu Tao's best weapon after Homa
A strict upgrade over White Tassel, a good R1 option weapon option and the Crit Rate is very welcome on Hu Tao
This is a good weapon on Hu Tao if you already have it. Sadly this isn't strictly better than Deathmatch or Dragon's Bane}}
Hu Tao's main F2P option

Crimson Witch vs. Shimenawa... (buckle up) Shimenawa deals more damage by changing how Hu Tao plays and is desirable because the 4pc Emblem set its partnered with is also very good in general; however, Crimson Witch provides more with 2pc flexiblity and greater consistency without sacrificing damage but suffers from having an atrocious farming process..
Hu Tao's endgame artifact set.
The recommendation for Shimenawa comes from the fact that your account is likely overall better by farming for Emblem set. There is a real chance you won't need to farm better Crimson Witch sets to fully utilize Hu Tao's potential.
Good set if you have Zhongli but even then not really recommended to farm for this set
